It allows me to downshift while braking for the corner...so that when i exit I am in the right gear and I can accel right away. If I don't do this then I have to wait longer to get into the lower gear as the synchros have a long way to go...and it is hard to get into gear. It seems to make a big difference.

I also do it on the street as it seems to make downshifts much smoother.

Heel toe also allows you to downshift while turning cuz if you jam it into a lower gear and just let off the clutch the back wheels will stop abruptly and you will lose control of the car for a moment.
