In Reply to: KBB and Edmunds quote average retail "List" price posted by 974dM3 on February 02, 2001 at 20:27:05:

List Price = $30,000

Discount Price = $23,000

Trade Value = $15,000

Trade Diff = $8,000

Contract Price = $33,000 (What KBB uses in Average)

Contract Trade Value = $25,000 (What KBB uses)

Trade Difference = $8,000 (No change to bottom line.)

Why, you ask, would a buyer allow the contract to be written this way? After spending all day dealing with the dealer negotiating a price, most people would do about anything to get home as long as the bottom line doesn't change.
