of course mine would be slightly biased, but here it is anyway. i go racing at the drag strip, often. several of my buddies come too, some have 95's, some have 97 and newer ones. (havn't seen a 96 that i recall). but from a sampling of over a dozen m3's at desoto, it is safe to say that the 95's have been faster in the 1/4 mile. we all talk about it,, our theory and i believe Jon Caldito discussed it a while back too,, was that the lesser restrictive 95 intake is designed more for HP. the longer, skinnier runners of the 96+ intakes is for more torque down low, but run out of air flow at the higher rpms.
so here is my deduction, the 96+ cars are faster in the 1/8th mile,, but that's about where the 95 will overtake them. this is what we've seen at desoto. this would also explain why several "stock" 95's run 14.0 flat and the 96+'s usually run 14.2 or more.
now when you modify them,, that is a whole different story,, and as mentioned, the obd 1, 95's are easier to modify.
