in the long term, do systems that do not come with stock heat shield mounts (UUC, borla) melt the undercoating and/or driveaxle boot? it is unlikely bmw would install the heat sheild if it was not required. (incidentally i asked UUC why they did not have mounts and the salesman told me, much to my amusement, that the shield was partly for sound, and the thicker gauge stainless took care of any heat issues. alas, the heat source is the same; a different material would only change the time required to get to the same temp.)
