I think he was talking about resale value of the car with LTW wing vs with a regular m3 wing. And I think he's right.
Also,
I think because the shelf 3rd light is (or should be) disconnected, nobody notices it or cares. And, of course, one can always buy a new rear shelf sans 3rd brake light if the sight of the dormant 3rd light pains them.

im looking to put a lightweight wing(3pc) on my 98 estoril m3 coupe do you guy's think it's a little "over the top" ? just want somthing to set it appart!

I wouldn't get one unless your doing a lot of track time. The factory type wing would have better resale too.

because you are left with two rear brake lights, one on the newly-added wing and one in the rear window. A car with wing supplied from the factory does not have the rear window light. Just MO. I don't care for the wing but if I did, I'd want to buy a car with factory wing rather than add-on. Some people won't care. Something to consider. Bottom line, if you are concerned about resale then think about it first, if you just want to modify you car because ... well ... it's your car and you like it ... then of course, do it, no matter what it looks like to others.
