I drive a turbo car now, and while I love the power, an sc has some real advantages, especially in terms of reliability and installation. If you sell the car, a sc is very easy to remove. Turbos make a ton of heat, which does bad things to everything else in the engine compartment. Turbos can also be peaky, while an sc delivers a nice steady torque curve. I'm not saying a turbo doesn't have its advantages, because it does. Just don't discount what a sc does.
Let's be honest- both a turbo and sc try to make an engine behave bigger than it really is. So the real solution is to actually increase displacement, which is a third option aside from turbo and sc. A stroker kit will not put the kind of strain on components that you get when you increase cylinder pressure, yet still offer a nice bump in power. Stroker motors also are more tolerant to real world situations like bad gas and finding a hose or belt when broken down in BFE.
Just something to think about...
have a Mech Tech turbo system for under $5K? Superchargers just plain suck. No boost before 4K, weak torque, parasitic HP loss, can't control the boost, belt-driven problems, etc. The turbo is obviously superior, but I have yet to see someone post anything about Mech Tech or a system they recently installed from them. I guess people are just stupid and like giving INCOMPETENT shops like RMS business for a product that flat out does not perform. Ever seen a supercharged race car that actually won anything?
