The exact same happened to me. I took it back to the dealer and had them replace it again.

Well I have replaced both fuel sending units already, and my car has only 12,000 miles on a 99 m3, and now it is acting up again. When I get gas it does not sense it until I turn it off again or sometime after that. I make sure the key is out of the ignition and everything when getting gas. Now what???

A little disappointed.
