And Chris Knappe... you can help me on this if you want :) So a friend of mine Chris calls me up and we hook up to go out and run our 95 M3's. We hit some fun twisties and pull into a gas station where I proceed to tell him about the crappy 01 Z28 LS1 I test drove Saturday. What a piece of crap that thing is. OMIGOD, it has to be the most overhyped car I've ever driven.. but I won't even go into how bad it sucked.. that's a story on it's own. Anyway his buddy that was with him hears me talking shit about how that z28 sucked, he gets on his cell and calls a buddy up with an SS Camaro. Next thing I know they want to know if I want to run the SS. I was like.. sure what the hell. He continues to talk to the guy and he asks me how much hp I'm pushing. I say around 280-285 HP, his reply.. he's running around 330 HP. *shrug* Ok this made me feel a little uneasy about my chances of beating him.. but screw it.. 3.0L vs a 5.7L? What do I have to lose I thought. We meet up and were off. Me in front in my m3.. the SS behind me and Chris in his M3 trailing with his friend. We're sitting at this light and I hear the SS reving a bit, I look up and notice the light is about to change. I rev to about 2800 rpm and hold it there. Light turns green.. *WHAM* I'm off and shifting hard. I pull away initially just from my launch and being in front. I slam it into 2nd and look back.. he's still there, I'm not leaving him,. but he's not gaining. I throw it into 3rd and still the same story. I throw it into 4th and notice some cars ahead of me so I start to slowly back out of it.. but I'll be honest it looked like he was inching up on me in 4th ever so slowly.. and I do mean slowly. My MPower had enough juice to keep the v8 honest and hold him at bay. I was pleasantly surprised. I then lead him out to the hwy.. this onramp was a quick right, quick left and quick right, and I drilled it through 3rd gear all the way through pulling away from the SS. Turns out later he had to brake half way through the twisties, even with his beefer suspension upgrade from the factory, he felt he had to back out of it, he could not stay with the M throught the twisties ;) I continue to press hard through 3rd and 4th.. there was no way he was going to catch me and I was pulling away. I backed out of it around 140 and we cruised to the next exit. I got a drink at a gas station and soaked in what had just happened. My 3.0L was holding it's own against the mighty 5.7L LS1. We decide to go do some stop light runs. We line up at a light.. I rev to around 2800 rpm and hold it there. The light turns and *WHAM* I'm off.. I look over and I'm half a car length ahead coming out of 1st gear. *WHAM* I grab 2nd and and he's still not catching me. I wind it through 2nd but there is a red light ahead so we back out of it. Then a cop crosses in front of us.. that threw me way off and brought me back down to reality. We had broken many many laws and could have easily been locked up for what we were doing. Yes I'm a bastard :) I'm sorry. I could not resist the opportunity to race an SS. We decided to call it quits for the night. I couldn't tell if he was gaining on me in 2nd or not but I never did see the front of his car till I was on the brakes. I'm just very happy with my M3 :) it has never ever failed to amaze me, and it has never let me down. Even against a car with almost twice the motor, my MPower came out ahead. GOD I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!95 M3 lux
