I just picked up a 98 Technoviolet M3 and had a couple of questions.

1.The engine fan seems to be always running even when cold. Does this mean the viscious fan clutch needs replacement? Is this a common problem?

the fan will rotate cold or hot because of the rotation of the pulley, whether you have a good fan clutch can easily be determined by spinning the fan when it is cold and then try it when it is at operating temp, there should be a noticable drag when at ot

2. I need to do pads/rotors all around. I plan on 8 autocrosses a year and maybe two driver's schools a season. What is the best setup for street/autocross/track?

just 34 k and the rotors and pads are toast? I'd say the car has seen a lot of track use already. Our 97 sedan didn't need pads (not rotors) until 70k. I autox ours (may do a track or 2) every month and went with the Performance Friction HD street front pads (less dust) and the OEM for the rear. Works great, however YMMV

3. The rear shock mounts and front tie rod ends need replacement according to my mechanic that checked the car out. Would these be replaced under warranty? (retail date 11/97, 33800 miles)

yes, although you may have to argue the "wear" issue on the tie rod ends at the dealer if he determines that they are "within spec"

(I haven't heard of any rear shock mounts going at that low mileage unless the car was used a lot for autox or track use ...)

Thanks for your input. You have all been a great help in getting the right car!

Thanks,
Bob
