I have a 95 M3 with the same problem. I took it to the dealership, and they said they will have to install a new one (about $500) and that they CAN'T transfer the mileage to the new one. They also said they would have to mark the car as having a changed odometer, since it will be back at 0 miles. I took the car to an independent shop, and they looked into physcially transferring the mileage chip to a used cluster, but they couldn't do it. So now, I am going to replace the cluster with a used one that has approximately the same mileage.

They want like $471.00 to replace it? Anyone else have this problem?
