and have many miles of experience with tires that have sidewalls < 100 mm like 235/40/17's and 195/50/15's. I assume that your 18's will too have a sidewall <100 mm. The most important two things you can do are:

1. Keep tire pressures up, at least above 35 psi, and check them often. This may seem like common sense, but I imagine that many people fail to do so.

2. Miss as many of the road hazards as possible. Seems to me the current fee for straightening a wheel is about $100, if its even possible.

You might want to get a winter set of wheels and tires to minimize the potential damage to your summer wheels, as well as increase you winter traction.
