I think you are referring to a drive block system. If broken into, technically the car cannot be started without physically having the key - those wiring starts we see on TV are not supposed to be possible. Having said that, I still do not think I would guarantee that a car cannot be driven away since I hear about thefts of drive-block equipped cars.

I did pass on a slightly used Porsche 964 1994 Turbo (a real beauty and one of the last great single turbos with RWD) PARTLY because of the lack of drive block. Would hate to see my car vandalised and being forced to take it back as lojack would probably ensure getting it back but in vandalised state. Drive block on the other hand atleast prevents a few more of the thieves from starting the car thereby limiting damage. I went with a more later generation Porsche turbo - the 993TT which has the drive-block feature. Still no guarantee but on expensive cars, we gotta atleast do all we can!!

My M3 too has that feature.

Best of luck.

Sorry to say it but Hondas are one of the easiest cars to get into but can an M3 be Broken into or stolen as easy as other cars out there. Not talking about Towing the car away because that could happen to anyone. In addition what is this i hear about the key having to be in the ignition.
