Maybe it is a Bay Area thing. I live in SF, in the Inner Sunset. I can count four E36 M3s in a five-block radius around my apartment (and they're always parked on the street!). I'm actually beginning to get a little sick of how many E36 M3s there are around here -- it takes away all the "specialness" of owning such an awesome car. I mean, BMW only made like 10,000 a year for both North America and Germany, right? It seems like most of them are in Silicon Valley and SF.

E36 M3 drivers typically ignore each other, at least here in the SF Area, where there are alot of M3s. When I had an E30 M3 on the other hand, other E30 M3 drivers will wave and even stop to chat at times.

However: I do get pissed when I pass another M3 on the road, give the guy a thumbs up or hi-sign, and he just ignores me or looks like he has no idea why I'm signaling him.

When I owned my 68 Camaro, at least 75 percent of other 67-69 Camaro owners would honk or signal somehow in recognition. I would expect the same of M3 owners -- but I get bupkiss in return!
