Even if the car was raced stoplight to stoplight, or some high speed mountain runs, these cars are very robust. It seems that most of the problems people have with their M3's has nothing to do with hard driving, but just a few weak point in the car, stuff like platic water pump impeller on 95's.

I'd have leakdown and compression tests done on the car, along with a full inspection from a trusted mechanic. That will be more dispositive of the car's condition than a few mods to make 15hp. On the other hand, a chipped Audi S4 would make me nervous.
