I currently have a '95 M3 and from what Ive heard the 95 is the model to have you want to do upgrades (i dont know why this is, maybe someone else can shed some light on it). The 96+ basically has the 3.2 engine which they claim doesnt produce more HP but has a wider torque band. Other than that the cosmetic differences are minimal. As for what youll have to do to get 270HP out of the car. I'm actually traveling down that same road. So far I have a Dinan Chip and Cold Air Intake, and Exhaust. I think to really be in the 270 range I'll still have to get a Dinan HFM and Throttle body. All of those mods should add up to about 270-275. The original plan was to try and hit 300hp but I dont think there is any way to do it without getting cams and I dont want to open up the motor. Wouldnt be able to get past smog check and I still want to keep the car a reliable daily driver.
