I have a 98 M3/4, and Yokohama AVS intermediate 255/40's didn't rub at all w/out fender rolling.
But now I have 255/40 Yoko A520 TL's and they rub like a whore in New Orleans. I'm going to get my fenders rolled on Monday morning. It's not really that big of a deal. I live in Phoenix area, and found a shop w/ a tool that guarantees their work.
For $50 a fender, it's worth it.

widest with rolled fender 265 .....255 with sport drop no fender roll needed...245 normal...
