Funny you should ask. I just sold my 1992 968 2 days ago. Why? Because my 97 M3/4 gives me all the gusto with 4 doors. I had the 968 for a little over 2 years and bought the M3 last October. The 968 is Cobalt blue and relly a nice looking car that you don't see often, a "head turner". I used to drive it when I felt "the need" and would push it whenever given the chance. I say this because since I picked up the M as my daily driver the 968 sat idle quite a bit, hence the sale.
I haven't taken either on track but would guess the M3 would easily hold it's own compared to the 968. The M feels quicker, is easier to shift and IMO more "settled" (predictable). Different cars but probably pretty similar in performance numbers. Don't get me wrong, you'd like the 968, I did, I just seemed to prefer the M.

Hi guys,
I'm interested in comparisons between the E36 M3 and
the Porsche 968 6-speed - In particular, the midrange
and top-end pull of the 968 on track, and cornering
ability/handling feel.
Any M3 owners out there who have driven a 968 on track?
What did you like/dislike about the Porsche?
Thanks,
Sanjeev (97 M3/2)
