Must Put Miles On Something Cheaper ... (archive)

I would never recommend having an M3 as a vehicle used for long commutes. The cost of tires and upkeep is much more expensive on an M3. It makes much more sense if you have a long commute to put the miles on something that is reliable and cheap to maintain like your Corolla.

I have a 91 GMC Jimmy S-15 4 door 4X4 that I use as a commuter/beater/winter car. Since my M3 has about 50,000 miles, it helps keep the miles down, the cost to maintain an American SUV is so much cheaper in terms of tires and maintenance, and I can do a lot of the basic stuff myself. Insurance is about the same, and less then $100/yr in addtional license and registration fees.

If you have the money, the M3 would be a great long commute vehicle, but for me I'd rather enjoy my car on weekends and trips rather then long commutes and parking in some garage where people could ding it up everyday. Good luck ...

Im planning on a buying a m3 in the fall .. should i keep my 90 corrola and use it to commute every other day because i will be doing 75 - 100 miles a day .. and would it be better for the m3 to spread the miles onto a beater vehicle?
and avoid really poor weather conditions. .??
