New 98 M3 Owner - Many Questions (archive)

Just bought a 98 M3 on Friday -- my first bimmer (my father had a 318 in the '80s and I fell in love with them), and the M3 is my dream car. With that said, I've been "snooping" here and elsewhere for a few days trying to learn more. I'll dig into some technical later, but I have a few cosmetic things that I want to ask of the group...

- The car didn't come with a CD changer, and I'm thinking of buying one. Is the Alpine or Pioneer better? Does it matter? I read that the cable is already in the trunk, but on quick inspection didn't notice it -- any tips for a newbie?

- One of the rear floor mats is missing -- can anyone suggest a good place to have those replaced? Yes, it's minor, but it still bugs me.

- The sunroof operates smoothly as I open it, but makes a slight grinding sound when I retract -- likewise, if I have the sunroof "lift" (rather than "open", for lack of a better word), it makes the griding sound, and only operates slightly -- how far should it be "lifting"? Is the sound typical?

- Will I benefit from putting the highest octane fuel possible from the gas station?

Thanks, hope I can become a contributing member to this community soon!
