97 M3 engine is spuddering What could it be? (archive)

I ran my 97 M3 a little low on gas and about 3-5 miles down the road affter I filled the tank up I was stoped at a light. When I gave it gas to go it started spuddering and would not go over about 5-10 mph. I pulled off the road and turned the engine off for awhile. I then tried to start it up again and it started up fine. But now the check engine light is on and it is running a little rough. I have been told that I sucked up some stuff from the bottom of the tank. If that is the case then what do I do. I have already put one of those gas additives into my tank that is supose to clean it up. What do I do?
