Yes, if the clutch is not fully disengaged, then you are putting extra wear on it. Some had to cut of 1/8 of an inch to make the clutchstop shorter. To be able to tell if you clutch is fully disengaged, park on a slight hill. Turn the engine off parked in first gear. Step on the clutch to see if you car rolls backwards. If not, then screw in the CS one more revolution. Keep doing it untill you get a good feel for the disengagement. Also, when driving... you should be able to tell if you clutch in not fully disengaged simply by feel. If it is difficult to put your shifter into gear, then your clutch is not fully disengaged.
I just received my UUC clutch stop, and installed it this weekend on my 98 M3/4. Like others have said, this makes a huge difference! I can shift so much faster and smoother now.
Anyway, how do I know if the clutch plate is *really* fully disengaged when the pedal is down? I'm concerned about this because I know if it's not, I could be putting extra wear on the clutch and tranny when shifting.
btw, now there's probably less than a half inch between the fully depressed position and when I think the clutch begins to make contact (judging from the revs dipping down while idling). The clutch stop is also screwed in as far as possible, so there's really no easy way to lower it any more.
