- The car didn't come with a CD changer, and I'm thinking of buying one. Is the Alpine or Pioneer better? Does it matter? I read that the cable is already in the trunk, but on quick inspection didn't notice it -- any tips for a newbie?

I believe there's only one model available for the 98 M3, don't know which it is though. The wiring is behind the trunk carpet on the right-hand side. CD changer mounts with 3 screws, IIRC, and there are 2 cable that plug in. Easy 10 minute install.

- One of the rear floor mats is missing -- can anyone suggest a good place to have those replaced? Yes, it's minor, but it still bugs me.

Local dealer, or there are several dealers that handle on-line or phone orders & offer good prices. The only one I have experience with is The BMW Store in Cincinnatti a few yers ago.

- The sunroof operates smoothly as I open it, but makes a slight grinding sound when I retract -- likewise, if I have the sunroof "lift" (rather than "open", for lack of a better word), it makes the griding sound, and only operates slightly -- how far should it be "lifting"? Is the sound typical?

Mine "grinds" a bit too sometimes. Probably needs to have the tracks lubed. The venting (lift) is about an inch or so, but I haven't actually measured it.

- Will I benefit from putting the highest octane fuel possible from the gas station?

Most definitely. My car gets a steady diet of Chevron Supreme (but that's required due to being Sharked - DME upgraded software, AKA "chipped".)

Hope that helps, and enjoy the car.
