I paid $29,350 for a '97 M34A in January, 2001 w/ 19.5k miles. (I wanted auto; I live in SF - mostly drive in SF) Sports equip.. I had to buy tires immediately: Yoko AVS. I got it from a broker in Oakland. He got it at the "highline auction"- no warranty, no books, but I carfaxed it and telephoned the PO to discuss the car, a lease return. I think it's a good idea to talk to the PO whenever possible - especialy if they are not yhe seller!

I really didn't want to buy from a broker, but after 8 months of looking, (I looked at abiut 15 cars) I decided "mileage and condition" over warranty.

A Way To Buy A BMW:

There are a number of auto brokers who will take you to the high line auction - you pick the car you want, they bid on it and add a (negotiable) fee. They can supply a list of all cars to be auctioned before the sale - usually these are lease returns; the list should tell yo where the car is from (State) and the VIN# and mileage - you can carfax any likely suspects.
