I have a 97 M3/4 sedan with 54K miles
Some things to check are the shock mounts, do you hear thumping noise from the rear when u go over bumps.
Also, check how well the alignment is (condition of tires and spare tire), and for any leaks at radiator hoses...
Is this a BMW dealer. If not you can take the VIN to a BMW dealer and get the complete service history.
Also, I would consider a pre-inpection at an independent shop.
