This car is starting to smell fishy:
1. No history.
2. Shady referal to mechanic.
3. He's had it for at least a month, if not more, and told me a week.
4. Been through another used car dealer.
I addition to this, I called around the area (including RI, CT, NH) and there really are at least FIFTEEN '97-'98 cars for under $30K with mileage in the 40-60K range, just from dealer that list on Auto Trader!. Also, one BMW dealer was competitive in price ~$28K, the other (in RI) thinks he can beat it, with a C.P.O. car (but he has to check stock in his chain). These BMW guys also want to finace at ~6.25-6.5%! To boot, I just missed a C.O.P.ed '95 4dr 5sp, with 40K miles, listed for $23K! Not the best deal, but cheaper and low miles.
Without a doubt this is a BUYER'S MARKET.
I'm right out of school and have a good job, but that car is already going to be a bit of a squeeze for me $$$ wise. I can't afford to take any risk with the quality of the car. ZERO RISK. I think my best bet it to keep looking, and build credit, capital and knowledge. I should probably look for a low miles, CPO, '95 in the low 20's, or great deal on a '97 as fall rolls around.
BTW, any highlighs about what I'm missing out on the '95 vs '97, besides TC and the 3.2?
Thanks again, I'll be sticking around..
