I once made it all the way from San Diego (La Jolla, actually) to Richmond in about 7 hours, including a fuel stop at Buttonwillow. This was in a 1988 Honda Accord. Of course, the traffic on 5 is a bit slower, now that the 55 mph speed limit is gone (now they might actually enforce the posted limit).
