I've got this annoying little squeak coming from right behind the steering wheel. I've been told the AIR BAG SLIP RING needs to be replaced (by the dealer). I've also been told by other people that all you need to do is relube the horn contact ring with some copper paste.
I've tried cleaning and relubing the horn contact ring with some high quality 3M copper paste (got it from the dealer). Didn't seem to do much.
Looking at and playing with the AIR BAG SLIP RING (after removing from the steering wheel), I can't see how it could be causing the squeaking noise. It seems to be internally lubed and moves very freely without producing any noise (though I didn't turn the slip ring a full 360 degrees). If its truly the AIR BAG SLIP RING causing the noise, then I'll replace it but at $200 from the dealer, I want to make sure this is the cause of the squeaking noise.
To help isolate the noise, I was thinking of removing the AIR BAG SLIP RING all together, but I know this will trigger the air bag warning light. Is there a way to reset the light without having to go to the dealer?
Anyone with any suggestions or ideas, please let me know.
TIA
