Don't get me wrong...I think the 330 convertibles are beautiful cars. Nice cruisers, decent horses, etc. But jeez, I think the lady (yes, some 30-year old woman) who challenged me has to realize that her 330ci is nothing like the '01 M3 convertibles. Yeah, they may look alike (she had the M wheels and I think a lowered suspension), but wheels are just wheels. She revved her motor like crazy, and she looked dead serious (not a smile or wink out of her). Not one to back down from a challenge (yeah, I know "racing" is dangerous, but how could I turn this down"), I beat her straight out. For about 2 seconds, I was actually surprised that we were in a dead tie. But from 30 to about 65 mph (we were on a 50-mph expressway), there was no comparison. By the time we hit 55, I was 1.5-2 car lengths ahead of her. Again, the 330 convertible does have some pickup, and I was surprised. But again, I wasn't really pushing it (I didn't realize she was THAT serious...I thought she was joking around).

I think some 330 owners are living in some fantasy world, where they think their car performs like the new M3. An "old" M3? They sneer at us. I don't know....I think my '99 M3 convertible (24k miles, all options, certified warranty) cost the same as the newer '01 330 (I bought it for $39.5k last January). I'd rather get the M3 anyday.
