There weren't any major differences in the 96-99 M3's..the only truly diffeent model was the 95. If it's not too old for you, it's the one to get for Mod'ing....the OBDI DME and 3.0L engine were very easy to add/change mods with....the 3.2L and OBDII of the 96-99 M3's is probably a more refined system, with more creature comforts and a bit better torque, but talking stock there's no difference in performance...it's only after you mod both that the 95 walks away the winner.

If you DO consider a 95, email me and I'll fill you in on the several items to make sure it has had replaced....as with any first year vehicle, there were a few components that commonly fail on a 95.
