Help: Faint whistling sound from engine (archive)

Started getting a faint whistling sound from engine on light throttle or off throttle between 2.5-3.5K rpm. Anyone has an idea or experience what this might be due to?

Am taking car in to dealer. But my guess is the mechanic's reponse will be the dreaded "I don't hear anything."
