NE1 install factory heat shields with AA exhaust? (archive)

The stock system has two heat shields near the muffler. The first is a curved one and the second is smaller and straight. Each is held to the stock exhaust with 4 10mm bolts/clips. They appear to have been intended to protect the driver's side CV joint from heat.

Last week, I installed an AA exhaust. It did not mention the heat shields in the instructions so I didn't put them on. However, I was working on the car today and decided to install the curved one. It was pretty easy. I just fitted and drilled two galvanized steel strips, and used the stock bolts and clips. It fit perfectly. The second wouldn't fit without directly contacting the car's floor pan so I left it off (vibration concerns).

The curved one seemed most important anyway, as it's mounted right under the rubber housing of the CV. I figure the rubber on the CV will wear much faster if the shield's not there from constant heating and cooling. Did anyone else do this?
