isn't 12.7 still a little lean though? (archive)

I know in a few other car's we worked on 13.1 yielded good power. 12.7 was getting a little lean. I would rather run a little rich and not worry about grenading the engine. But you are right about the max power. You just have to put the car on the dyno and do a few runs to see what that car likes the best while keeping a reasonable a/f ratio.
An A/F of 14.7:1 is optimal for Catalytic Converters - nothing else. 12.7:1 will give you max power.

Just making sure I have this right... optimal A/F is 14.7:1, and Max Power is @ .86 multiplier? about 12.7:1 or so?
Thanks,
Boris
Got another question, while at it.... if 14.7 is optimal, then why is running a bit more rich (and ONLY with the .86 multiplier be the max power output?) Any engineers out there?
Thanks.
