I've done 3 autocrosses, several canyon runs, and long drives, and aggressive street driving. I've added I would say maybe 4 quarts in total throughout this time (not including the original 7 quarts when I changed my oil).

All of the answers you've gotten are correct. These are known problems and the ///M3 burns lots of oil. I'm due for an oil change so I'll probably go to about 7k (I'm at 6k now) before changing.

I use AMSOIL 0W-30 (live in Los Angeles, Calif). I just add an extra 1/4 before autocrosses or heavy canyon running.
