I've went through the archive looking for information about what tire sizes are good for 18x8.5 wheels and have gotten all sorts of different sizes. I've recently purchased a set of ACS type III 18x8.5 rims and they recommend 225/40-18 for those wheels. I've read other people who have put much wider tires than those, with most people having at least the 235/40-18 setup. My question is, is the 225/40-18 setup enough? And how will getting, say, the 235/40-18 setup differ? I'm considering going with 235/40-18 tires and would appreciate any comments and advice on this topic. Thanks a lot!!

225/40-18 front. I made a mistake on the fronts. I should have gotten 235s or 245s. The 225s are stretched more than I like on a 8.5" wheel. They don't look very good and they seem like they want to roll under on hard cornering. The big difference between front and rear size adds to the understeer too.

The tires I have don't come in a 245, only a 235. If you consider 245s, you'll have to be careful. If your wheels are 38mm offset and you get a square shouldered tire like the BFGs, the tire may rub the strut housing.
