does it get stuck when you push the button in? I would assume there's something sticky in the lock or something.... before replacing anything, I'd take it out on a weekend and clean it up, and use a bunch of WD-40... but then again, I dont understand your problem, and I'm not 100% of this... My trunk lock is sticking, and sometimes the only way I can open it is by unlocking one of the doors,
does it need some lube, or am I looking at a new assembly?
bentley guide was nearly useless, no mention of maintenance intervals for locks, door hinges, or other body related items,
