It seems a lot more common on M3s than with any other car. About one time a week, somebody here posts a problem with this.

Many people blame the driver (or themselves), but I feel the transmission design in the M3 accentuates the risk of shifting wrong, and the risk of a bad shift and the resulting damage is much worse than with many other makes of cars.

If you get this car you will love it, but you should keep in mind that every shift must be perfect. There is no margin for error. Get it wrong and you spend $10k or so to fix it.

At one time or another what % of owners do you think mis-shift the M3. Also .. when does it typically occur .. during normal daily driving, when the mind wanders off .. or during high speed aggressive driving? I am wondering because I am interested in a M3 but if I mis-shift I dont have 8-10k to shell out, and will literaly have to let the car sit in a corner (since warranty/insurance wont cover mis-shifts).. I dont plan on aggressive driving, but all this talk about mis-shifts in the m3, are freaking me out .. please advise.

Thanks
