I have less than 3k on my Pilot Sports and found in the past couple of weeks that I can prettty much shake the rear end loose in 2nd any time I want. Well, at least in most curves and sometimes on the straights too. Maybe not so extreme as what you're describing, probably due to the fact the the Pilots are a slightly better tire.

1. I found out tire pressure plays a big part. When it got cold suddenly, tire pressure dropped to 30PSI cold. I inflated it back to around 37PSI.
2. It does seem to greatly depend on ext temperature. Happens more when colder, to me this points to the Z compound in the tires.
3. The engine does seem stronger in the lower temps. Sometimes it feels like it gained 20 horses!

So I'm thinking it must be a combination of all these factors. Now I'm watching the tires pressure all the time, the only thing I can control.

BTW, the M3 is much more sensitive to this than my A4, which runs on Dunlop SP Sport 9000. I think the next time I'll get those or SP03 for the M.

I was mostly satisfied with these tires that were new when I bought my car, but recently, I've experienced a huge change in feel. All of the sudden (about 8k miles of wear), the rear is very loose under acceleration and cornering. I have played around with the tire pressure, but it doesn't seem to make a drastic difference. The only thing I haven't tried is extremely high pressure (i.e. 40s).

I realize that my car may be pulling a bit harder as the average temperature is significantly lower in the winter where I live (about 40-50 degrees), but I can easily break the back end loose at ANY time in 2nd. Also, I can shake the rear out hard under high rev shifts into 3rd.

I have no engine mods.
Traction control is off - obviously.
Tires still have lots of visible tread.

Anyone else have this problem?

Jeff
