UGGGGHH!! Throwout bearing?!? (archive)

What are the symptoms of a bad throwout bearing on a '97 m3/4, 5spd w/ 75,000 miles? My car seems to have developed a shimmy to it. It is most noticeable when accelerating but present when idling, it also seems to be idling rough and at low rpms (~600). A noise is being emitted from behind the front wheels, and this noise stops whenever I put the clutch in. Any advice?
