Extended warranties through BMW tend to be more expensive than from anywhere else. Plus, BMW itself does not sel the warranty, they are merely a broker for the administrator, just like everyone else.

BTW, if your car is still under factory warranty, it's still considered new to the warranty company. If the car is out of factory, I'm not sure what kind of prices you will encounter.

I just got a warranty from Auto Advantage, which brokers a really solid warranty administered by Pro-Guard. It was significantly less expensive than from BMW, and it covers me until 2009 or 150,000 miles. BMW doesn't even come close to offering that kind of coverage. (It is transferrable if I sell the car, which I think will give me a slight selling advantage over sellers who don't have a warranty.)

I feel like it was a good gamble. I would rather waste the money on the warranty than risk repairs that are more expensive. With my shitty luck, I would surely have big repair bills if I don't get the warranty. True, the warranty company figures it wil make money on the deal, and they could well be right.

The bottom line for me is I can't afford the payments and a big repair bill at the same time, so it makes sense for me.

The only catch is you have to keep careful maintenance records, and no mods or the deal is void.

Good luck,

JO

If it is not Ext. warrant through BMW themselves, I would not waste the money and buy one from those independent companies not associated w/ BMW. Usually you waste a few hundred or couple grand in some cases.
