There is a company called UNICHIP that can custom tune your specific car, do a google search on "unichip ECU." this is probably the cheapest option out there at $7-800.
lastly you can install a standalone engine management, this is the easiest interface to tune from your laptop. however the learning curve is steep as you have to write the software from scratch and duplicate BMW's 50+ years of experience with no engine dyno or real instrumentation. You're looking at $2000+ minimum.
I want to edit my own software for a OBD II DME E.C.U. I've only been able to find software from http://www.bonnevillemotorwerks.com/ to edit an M3 computer. ANyone know of anyone else? I would like to be able to run this software on a laptop and use a special connector kinda like the shark injector to connect to the car to load and backup the software, first is this possible? Second where can I get this kinda connector? Third can I modify a shark injector to load my own software? If I can't do this through the engine port where can I get an EPROM programmer with chips and accessories? Hopefully someone can help.
