You're engine should fit e30 bmw's...old 325's ('85-'91) and 318's ('84-'91). here's an article about it:

You won't have the great exterior design of your e36 m3, but i'm guessing that you would have better performance with that engine in a e30 because i think the e30 325i weights around 500 lbs less than the e36 m3.
