For what i know, the top picture radio is for 96+ 3 series include the M3, the one on the bottom is for 95 M3, that's what i have, (and i brought my car new) in 96+ M3 they change it to (the top picture) and yes, the 95 radio won't work one the 96+ cd changer (I-bus), u need to get another one.
