I have the AA bar (orginal German one) on my 1996 and it fits fine (and I have the ASC set-up too!)

The only "bump" it has made is a mild impression on the underhood insulation and not the metal of the hood itself.

You sure you got the install correct? (As is, is the strut tower clamps reversed?)
