Mine is a 99 also so I had the same question as you did before. Basically, 96 and previous are OBD I so you can get the Dinan, AA, etc and replace the factory chip. With OBD II like 96 on, you will have to remove the ECU and send it to Dinan, AA, etc or buy a Shark injector and download the software into the ECU. I am thinking of getting a Shark myself since it can be reprogram back to the original software to avoid having bmw bs about voiding warranty due to upgrades.
