With key on (pos. 2 or car running)and stereo in radio mode turn off stereo. Turn back on and as soon as you see the display come on push the "M" button and hold it for at least 10 or so seconds until the serial number appears on the screen. Write down number and call your dealers service dept and give them the number and they will look it up and call you back with a code. My dealer wanted $40 to "take the radio out, blah, blah, blah, to get the serial#" All they do is what I described and charge you for it. Good luck.
BobDamn...I had to jump start the car tonight since I haven't driven it for 2 weeks. Anyway..I pulled out the manual and it said if the battery was recharged or jumped then I will need to put in the code for the audio head unit. I bought the car used and the previous owner didn't mention anything about the code for the audio and on board computer(he never uses it). Anyone have any idea to solve this??? Guess I will have to take it to the local Bmw dealer to get the code reprogram?? The car is still under warranty btw...
