Does anyone know how to upgrade software chip in a 99 M3?
where is the computer located under the hood? How do you get the computer open and replace the chip?

The Jim Conforti "Shark Injector" is plugged into the vehicle's diagnostic port and activated. It uses the car's power to upgrade the ECU's software and takes only about 10 minutes to do. The ECU can be reset to stock just as easily. You make have to purchase a battery charger as it is imperative that the battery is at full charge in order for the upgrade to take, I purchased mine from Sears for about $55.00. The Shark Injector is priced at $399.00 from various BMW performance parts suppliers. I got mine from Turner Motorsport.
