And I can understand them - the M3 E36 steering is not great at low speeds. It loads up nice at high(er) speeds, but up to 50-60mph it is too slow and a little wooden. My wife initially thought the M3 is heavier than the A4 because of this. Then she found herself driving around 90mph and realized her mistake :).One other (small) criticism is for how the suspension is sometimes unsettled giving small side-to-side lurches. It definitely lets you know what's going on, but apparently the E46 does this a little better.
This is all my opinion, no need to flame. I honestly believe a great sport car should have good steering at low speeds, that's where you spend most of your time anyway. Anybody who doesn't believe me should try a Miata someday.
