Asusming you have the standard 10 speaker system. Ditch the headunit for an aftermarket (i.e. Nakamichi CD-45z matched amber interior). Use the high level outputs connected to the standard amp and speakers. Use the Subwoofer low level outputs of headunit and run an subwoofer amp and subwoofer enclosure. There are all kinds of options..I have heard the Kicker Solarbaric 10's in this configuration. They sounded great. This setup is cheap.

If you change the front speakers, you will also have to change the rear and the standard amp, because all the standard speakers are 2ohm nokia speakers. The standard amp used high level inputs and has built in crossovers for the 2x and 3x seperates.
