I am new to the board and considering buying a 1999 M3 convertible. Can anybody point me to the difference in the 1996 thru 1999 M3 models? Maybe I will save a few $$ and get a 1997 model instead of 1999 if there is nothing different....
thx
Well there is really nothing different from 1996 to 1999 except some minor air conditioning controls and whatnot. Since convertibles were only made in '98 and '99 the only difference among them is that starting with late '98 models they had a three-spoke steering wheel, lighted shift knob (manual), rear head rests, and side airbags. Not sure how this all fits in the convertible run; it is true for coupes at least. Just check out those features or the lack thereof and above all get the best condition you can afford as those are pretty meaningless features if you have to replace stuff in a previously abused car. I'd make it a point to look for a '99--the warranty will be a year better than '98's and you'll have all the newest features whatever they are.
