You have to drop the exhaust. You also need to handle it before it starts knocking, Mine went out busted my center support and had to replace the driveline. Flexdisk is $45 driveline is $800. The BMW Bently Manual step by step walks you through it.

I took a look at my flex disk today and it has a couple of nice fat cracks running through it. I wanted to know if has anyone has been successful in removing the disc without dropping the exhaust.
